The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science is dedicated to excellence in academics, research, innovation, and industry-oriented skill development. The department is proud to be the first AI & DS program among Tier-II institutions in India to receive NBA Accreditation, reflecting its commitment to quality education and outcome-based learning.
The department fosters a strong research culture through publications in reputed journals and conferences, along with patents and copyrights in emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, and Data Science.
Students are provided with extensive exposure through workshops, certifications, internships, industry interactions, hackathons, and research activities. Their achievements are reflected in outstanding academic performance, including VTU Gold Medalist Miss Meghana Anil Pawar (1st Rank), Miss Mayuri Tayasaheb Patil (6th Rank), and Miss Deepa Mahantesh Benni (10th VTU Rank).
The department emphasizes industry readiness by training students in AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, Generative AI, Cloud Computing, Big Data Analytics, and Business Intelligence. As a result, students secure placements in reputed organizations with packages ranging from ₹4 LPA to ₹9 LPA in core IT companies, serving in roles such as AI Engineer, Data Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, Data Analyst, and Software Developer.

Welcome to the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.
Artificial Intelligence and Data Science have emerged as transformative technologies of the 21st century, revolutionizing industries, businesses, and society at an unprecedented pace. Recognizing the growing importance of these domains, the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science was established in the year 2020 with an initial intake of 60 students. Owing to the increasing demand for AI and Data Science professionals and the department’s remarkable academic progress, the intake has been enhanced to 120 students from the academic year 2026–27.
The department has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Artificial Intelligence and Data Science program in India under Tier-II Institutions to receive NBA Accreditation. This prestigious recognition reflects our commitment to academic excellence, outcome-based education, continuous improvement, and quality technical education.
Our department is dedicated to delivering innovative, industry-relevant, and high-quality education in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Big Data, and emerging technologies. We adopt modern teaching-learning methodologies that encourage critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and lifelong learning among students. Our experienced and highly qualified faculty members are actively involved in research and innovation, contributing through research publications in reputed journals and conferences, patents, copyrights, and funded projects.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)
PEO1 : Build a strong foundation in mathematics, core programming, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science to enable graduates to analyze, design, and implement intelligent systems for solving complex real-world problems.
PEO2 : Foster creativity, cognitive and research skills to analyze the requirements and technical specifications of software to articulate novel engineering solutions for an efficient product design.
PEO3 : Prepare graduates for dynamic career opportunities in AI and Data Science by equipping them with interdisciplinary knowledge, adaptability, and practical exposure to tools and techniques required for industry and research.

PO1: Engineering Knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics, natural science, computing, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization as specified in WK1 to WK4 respectively to develop to the solution of complex engineering problems.
PO2: Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions with consideration for sustainable development. (WK1 to WK4).
PO3: Design/Development of Solutions: Design creative solutions for complex engineering problems and design/develop systems/components/processes to meet identified needs with consideration for the public health and safety, whole-life cost, net zero carbon, culture, society and environment as required. (WK5).
PO4: Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: Conduct investigations of complex engineering problems using research-based knowledge including design of experiments, modelling, analysis & interpretation of data to provide valid conclusions. (WK8).
PO5: Engineering Tool Usage: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering & IT tools, including prediction and modelling recognizing their limitations to solve complex engineering problems. (WK2 and WK6).
